This is a Generac Guardian generator that was originally made for Carrier. They didn't sell very well, and Carrier unloaded a bunch to a company that relabeled them "watchdog" generators. They do not have the electronic governor like the new 16kw units do. This is the same as the model 04390 that was discontinued about a year ago. We just got through Hurricane Gustav in Southeast LA. My area lost power for more than 36 hours. My Watchdog started up within 30 secs of outage and ran straight through the entire time without a hitch ! Running 65% of my 3100 sq ft home. I do not have it hooked to central AC units. But I did run 5 window units throughout, along with lights, kitchen, TV's, computers, etc, and it ran flawlessly. The only problem with having one of these is that your house gets to be very popular. I had 3 other families with me throughout the storm. As of today 9/5/08, one is still with me! Their home is still is without power, and they are very comfortable in mine!
